Not much is known about the early history of Lycian Olympos, whose fairy tale pretty ruins appear undiscovered , set deep in a shaded valley that runs along a trickling stream, straight to the sea. |
A small farmstead nestled into the corner of the ruins, with a tomb in it's back yard |
Tombs in the rocks across the partially dried river bed |
The harbor area along one side of the river |
View to the Mediterranean |
Remains of a 5th-6th century BC Byzantine church, but was added to by the Romans and was still in use well after 9AD |
Entrance to the Roman Temple |
A lost Roman????? |
Work follows everywhere, even in antique cities |
Aqueduct |
Monumental Tombs |
Mosaic building, obviously under renovation |
Interesting aspects - lone arch, stairs to nowhere, and the decision of which "bridge" to use to cross the stream |
Turtles enjoying the sun |
Monumental Port Tomb of an unknown Greek Mediterranean Sea Captain |
Genoese Castle remains |
Cirali (chuh rah luh) Beach with ruins right down to the beach and Mt. Olyompos (Lycian) towering over all. |
